Party in a car park with Urban Food Fest every Saturday in Shoreditch.
Don’t miss your guide to the coolest restaurants in Soho!
Spending an evening in a Shoreditch car park doesn’t usually top our to-do list, not to mention eating and drinking in one, but with the return of Urban Food Fest to East London this unusual al fresco location has become our new Saturday night staple.
Serving up some killer street food, each Saturday, Urban Food Fest invites a revolving cast of food trucks and stalls to set up shop in Euro Car Parks on Shoreditch High Street. The theme of the food changes every two weeks – when we went it was ‘Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ – and will vary from ‘Viva Britannia’ to ‘Oktoberfest’.
While you decide whether to sandwich or slider you can stop by the bar, which serves up epic themed cocktails, Orchard Pig cider and a selection of craft beers, or kick back and listen to some live music entertainment.
ETL’s top three dishes on the night were:
We’re still not over the pulled pork bun, especially when it comes in the form of a triple meat feast with ham, streaky bacon and a smoky chilli sauce. To say things got a little messy would be an understatement.
We’ve always seen this traditional French fare as a little heavy, but sling some shredded duck confit leg into a demi brioche bun with duck skin scratchings, red onion chutney and a melted cheese topping and the results are tender, juicy and addictive!
Crème Brûlée – The Brulerie
While London’s only crème brûlée specialists serve up some seriously quirky flavours – coffee and cigarettes anyone? – we kept things classic with a simple vanilla dessert that was perfectly creamy with the ideal crispy top.
Urban Food Fest runs every Saturday night until 20th December 2014.
5pm – Midnight – Free Entry
