The Raja Suite, Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok

John Gregory-Smith found an oasis in the Raja Suite at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok

After an epic family break on Koh Samui, we landed in Bangkok for the last night of our holiday. We weaved our way through the hustle and bustle of this incredible Asian city to arrive at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit to stay in their Raja Suite.

The suite was stunning; a massive sitting room lead through to an impressive sized contemporary bedroom that had a huge flat screen on the wall and grand double doors that opened out into an azure blue tiled bathroom, complete with oversized bath and walk in shower.

The highlight of the suite was the private terrace. From the bedroom or sitting room, double doors opened out onto the terrace that had killer views of the city, a covered dining table and lush tropical garden; our own private oasis right in the thick of it. Fragrant flowers bobbed in ornate stone vases and sun loungers had been positioned to catch the best of the afternoon’s rays.

We peeled off to have lunch and a swim in the pool. Set in a walled garden, thick with foliage shielding it from the busy city below, the pool was the perfect spot to cool off in the heat of the day. After a quick dip, we went back to the private terrace to enjoy a sun downer and take in the views of the neon city as it twinkled to life.

Nothing was too much trouble, and that night we feasted at a long table on the terrace, laden with candles and beautiful flowers. The chilled rosé flowed and we were treated to an exclusive tasting menu, including spicy Tom Yam soup, perfect pad Thai, rare duck Panang curry and pork larb salad. It was an incredible end to the trip – thank god they had a running map for the local Benjakiti Park to clear away the cobwebs before we left the next morning.

The Raja Suite at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit costs from THB 31,000++ (approx. £586.54) per night – dinner not included sheratongrandesukhumvit.com
