One Kensington is the new West London hotspot from the Tamarind Collection buzzing with old-fashioned glamour.
Getaway this weekend for a sophisticated stay at The Wellesley
The Tamarind Collection have already made quite a name for themselves on the restaurant scene with Michelin starred Indian cuisine at Tamarind of Mayfair, casual dining at Imli Street Soho and Tamarind of London on Newport Beach USA.
Taking over the London and County Bank building that overlooks Kensington Gardens, One Kensington is The Tamarind Collection’s first venture into Mediterranean cuisine.
With its huge counter bar taking centre stage, intimate booths and a raised champagne table (named John Tann after the engineer behind the wall safe at the front of the building), One Kensington oozes old fashioned glamour, with a cheeky contemporary wink.
Designed to fit around the stunning Victorian architecture, One Kensington has huge vaulted ceilings, dark wood panelling and decorative plaster, with a modern touch from the bright turquoise armchairs that surround every table.
Starters include a rich dish of venison loin with salsify and pistachios or a simple pea soup jazzed up with a decadent topping of lobster. Mains are equally tempting with combinations like scallops with asparagus papaya and grilled pumpkin and a beautifully tender lamb rump with Taggiasca black olives.
