For a taste of Japan without the air-miles look no further than Hyper Japan, as they return to the capital to bring us Londoners the ultimate celebration of Japan and all its quirky glory. They’re transforming Earls Court into its own little Japanese city, with exhibitions, performers and workshops, set up alongside some of the best Japanese food and drink you can get outside of Tokyo.
Amongst the bright colours and kitsch costume-wearers, Eat-Japan will set up their prestigious Sushi Awards. The culinary contest will be pitching some of the UK’s finest Japanese chefs against each other to win the acclaimed title ‘Sushi of the Year’.
Daniel Codini the senior sous chef at Yashin Ocean House, Eduardo Aguiar head chef at Chisou Knightsbridge and Roka’s sushi chef Wojciech Popow, will be almost those competing. And don’t panic sushi fans, you’ll get your say in who you think should be crowned the culinary king as each attendee gets to sample one piece of each chefs work.
Eat-Japan have also set up their exclusive Sake Experience, Europes biggest sake tasting event that’s sure to teach you everything you’d ever want to know about this traditional Japanese drink. And, just to be on the safe side of hungry, Hyper Japan will also be taking over the food court, selling fresh Japanese street food, like steaming bowls of ramen, fluffy omelette-like okonomiyaki and bubble tea.
Hyper Japan 25-27 July, tickets cost £12.
