The fabulous Cake Boy Eric Lanlard seems to be on an unstoppable roll of cakes and bakes, his latest endeavour being a delectably sweet pop up at uber cool pub The Paradise in Kensal Green, where I was invited to try Eric’s one time only bespoke dessert menu.
Showcasing Eric’s skills for pairing flavours and ingredients with expertise and flair, the menu featured everything from gloriously simple frozen red berries with a white chocolate sauce, to the more adventurous West Indian chocolate tart.
Although the entire menu was equally tempting, we chose the Earl Grey and Chocolate Tart with Caramalised Fig. It was sweet, creamy and perfectly balanced, with a slight smokiness from the tea and a fruity edge from the fig. The winner for me was the decadent white chocolate cheesecake loaded with tangy passion fruit to cut through all the richness beautifully.
As well as scoffing Eric’s delicious desserts, we also tried several dishes from Paradise’s regular menu. A plate of seared scallops with sweet corn and pancetta made for a sumptuous start to the proceedings, whilst roasted sea bream with balsamic vinegar, puy lentils and sugar snap peas was the perfect prologue for the desserts.
The Paradise regularly hosts residencies for some of the countries most influential chefs, each one being set up at the chic pubs delightfully dilapidated restaurant. I couldn’t think of a better way to curb all my cake cravings. The night truly was a sweet-toothed paradise!
