Eataipei comes to Tent London in celebration of the 2016 World Design Capital
Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, has closed the deal to become the 2016 World Design Capital. This honour – previously held by cities such as Torino, Seoul, and Cape Town – offers an exciting opportunity for the designated city to celebrate and rejuvenate its cultural landscape.
Eataipei is set to launch in September as part of the London Design Festival at Tent London. Organisers promise to take diners on an immersive and eye-opening culinary adventure that will explore Taipei as a city where modernity is informed by historical influence, resulting in rich cultural vibrancy.
Anglo-Taiwanese aesthetes, designer Shikai Tseng and architect Rain Wu, have curated what looks set to be a stunning, experimental five-course tasting menu executed with flair by chef Chung-Ho Tsai (previously of Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner). Each of the five courses represent an aspect of Taipei: history, people, landscape, lifestyle, and the future. The menu will incorporate touch, taste, sound, and smell to create a rounded sensory experience that’ll accompany an exhibition of the best of Taipei design from fields such as industry, lighting, and ceramics.
There will be five 40 minute tasting sessions a day for the duration of the event. Booking is open to the general public from mid-September, but you’ll need to be on the ball as no doubt this highly anticipated event will sell out quick.
Eataipei runs from the 24th-27th September.
