What to See
Taqueria is amongst the oldest Mexican restaurants in the capital. Located on the west side of town, we always have to queue as it seems quite popular among the locals. We go here for the caldo talpeño, an exquisite chicken broth with chipotle, onion, coriander and lime.
Try also the arroz a la mexicana con platano frito (Mexican style rice with fried plantain): It’s just like being back home at lunch time. In our opinion, this place has the best menus on offer for Mexican food in the city.

This is one of the new kids on the block. With some kitsch Mexican decoration and videos, Mezcal Cantina has had a very good start with Mexican Londoners.
We loved the tacos de suadero and the tamarind margaritas. And as the name suggests, the bartenders will be happy sharing their expertise on which mezcal – the new trendy drink after the tequila – is best for you. ¡Salud!

Arriving at Lupita is always like a trip back to Mexico City. A favourite starter is the guacamole, which is prepared in front of you in the traditional molcajete.
We recommend the beef alambre, which always brings back those memories of university years when you needed a good meal to keep you going; add cheese and ask for plenty of lime to enhance the flavour. The salsas are smoky and hot, so a good gua de horchata or jamaica drink will help cool you down.

If you want to try classic Mexican specialities, this is the place. We highly recommend the pescadillas, they are delicious! Don’t miss the taco trays that are perfect for sharing – you can choose from a range of 4 fillings and guacamole, beans, pico de gallo, salsa roja, salsa verde, onion, cilantro and sour cream, all served with warm corn or flour tortillas.
Mestizo is renowned among Mexican Londoners for their Sunday brunch buffets and taco Thursday – after 7pm it’s always party time in this lively restaurant and definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in London.

Casa Morita feels like a typical Mexican fonda in the middle of trendy Brixton Market. The friendly staff serve the most delicious green enchiladas, which are perfect for a Saturday brunch; pair that with a tamarind drink or a Mexican beer and it’s a party.
The sopa azteca (made of tortilla chips and topped with avocado) is one of their best dishes, along with their tacos with chorizo. Finish off your meal with the delicious traditional flan, a crème caramel Mexican Style.

With branches popping up everywhere, Wahaca has put Mexican food right up there with the noodle and the burger. Its co-founder, Thomasina Miers, wanted to encapsulate the amazing variety of Mexican cuisine and bring it to London.
It has a good selection of Mexican Vitamin “T”: Tortas, Tacos, Tostadas. We recommend the classic pork pibil (tender marinated pork) and the cactus tacos for the more adventurous. You cannot leave without having churros y chocolate for dessert, just superb!
