Last week Hummingbird Bakery launched their newest creation, a bacon and maple syrup flavoured American brunch themed cupcake. Sceptical? Don’t be, they’re amazing.
Candied bacon is huge right now and we were thrilled to find out that the Hummingbird bakery branched out into sweet savoury heaven.
The Hummingbird Bakery chose the bacon cupcake from over 1400 recipes entered in their recent competition, crowning Susie Kelly, (who developed the recipe,) queen of the cupcakes.
The cakey creation is a decadent maple syrup soaked sponge full of bacon bits, surrounding a caramel centre, smothered in maple frosting and topped with a chunky piece of crispy bacon. The saltiness of the bacon perfectly offsets the sweetness of the maple syrup, while the crispy bacon contrasts with the thick richness of the sponge, combining to create a really weird eating experience that has no right to be as wickedly delicious as it is.
The American Brunch cupcake will be available until the 28th July in all London Hummingbird Bakeries. It’s £3.25 to take away, or £3.95 to eat in-grab one while you can!
