Atul Kochhar is the chef and owner of Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Benares in London and his new book Curries of the World is out now.


  • What is your favourite city right now? London.
  • Why do you love it? Everything you can achieve here. It is truly home.
  • Where do you refuel in the morning? At home with the family.
  • Tell us a hidden gem? Berkeley Square. In between service at Benares I’ll sneak outside and grab a break.
  • Where is the best market? Other than India, in London it’s Broadway Market.
  • Top street-food eat? At Broadway Market it’s Veggie Table, they have great vegetable or halloumi burgers.
  • Best place for a sunset drink? Benares in the kitchen.  I love the energy during the dinner service.  Everyone puts on their top performance. There is more vibrancy!
  • What restaurant do you book every time? After being in a restaurant all day, a home-cooked meal with my wife and kids is perfect.
  • Best spot for something sweet? I work with Eric Lanlard and he makes the most amazing desserts and cakes.
  • What gadget?  My iPhone.
