The most grown up tea party possible this Chocolate Week with afternoon tea at The Langham Hotel.
If you were to ask me to sum up the Chocolate Week afternoon tea at the Langham Hotel it would simply be this: “Oh my God”. This was one of the most decadent meals I’ve ever eaten, in an unimaginably beautiful setting.
We came in from a typical London downpour (windswept is an understatement) into a palatial entrance hall with bouquets of flowers bigger than my car guiding us into the opulent restaurant adorned with plush armchairs just screaming to be sat on. Suitably relaxed, we ordered a pot of the classic Langham blend tea, a lovely fragrant cup with a slightly bitter after taste that complimented the food perfectly.
As for the food itself, well, how many synonyms for delicious can you think of? The highlight of the savoury plate was the little mushroom tarts topped with a soft boiled quails egg, with a filling so rich and meaty it could have passed for steak.
I’m not ashamed to tell you I was slightly sceptical about the smoked salmon waffle cones filled with cauliflower and white chocolate cream. My fears were immediately squashed with the first bite, a symphony of texture and flavour, the salmon lent a deep salty note and the white chocolate a wonderful creaminess – I’m definitely a convert to this vegetable/chocolate marriage.
Undoubtedly my favourite dessert, the sweet mousse lollipops had coloured layers of delicious fruit mousse, which slightly resembled a fruit pastels ice-lolly. Presented in a clear plastic tube we had to push the delicious fruity bites out with a stick to eat from the top with joy. The staff were excellent at ensuring my tea cup was always full to the brim and were on hand to answer any questions.
The Chocolate Week Afternoon Tea is available at The Langham Hotel until the 20th of October at £40 a head. For more information visit langhamhotels.com
